This evening I went to a nearby bakery to get Nerthi’s favourite Pineapple Cake as I had vouched her this morning. I literally hurried, as I had to be back home shortly to catch up for an official meeting. While walking back home, I took a quite an unusual route as it had some history of Covid cases.

All of a sudden, my eyes caught sight of an Old Granny with her mouth clean with no teeth. I asked her “Enna paati, saaptingala?.. Yen paati, Inga ukkandha yaaruku theriyum oru help nu kekanum na kooda”.. She never replied but kept seeing me.. Thought she lost her ears because of her age and motioned the same.

She immediately replied, saying ‘Nee sonnadhu ketuchu thaayi” and said she hadn’t eaten anything with her eyes soaked with tears.

I offered her two Plain Buns and asked if she can eat with no teeth… With lot of shyness she said, she will eat. I said, super paati and went back to the shop, brought her some more eatables and sat with her in the platform to make her feel comfortable to hear her and to allow her to share. I also offered her the remaining 280 rupees that I had.

She slowly opened up and said family feels her as a trouble in lockdown due to lack of space and finance.Hence she walked out of her house without saying anything to anyone. She said, she feels she didn’t know how to consume something to die or cannot even jump from anywhere so sat there thinking what to do die, if not where to go.

She said, I replied the person saying “If there is a God, I will have someone who will ask me” “and If someone asks, I will return back home” and kept sitting here. Now you are asking me. Kadavul Irukaan Paapa…Kadavul Irukaan.. Indha Kelaviyayum Paakran

But when she walked out one of her known person asked her where she is going and she said I am going somewhere and won’t come back. The person should be of her age hence said, simply don’t go anywhere foolishly..no one will ask for you or search for you. Don’t think anyone will stop to ask what and why to you.

Sometimes you will never know that a 10 minute time of yours can create lot of happiness to you as well a great leap of Joy and Hope to someone else too
